Young Women Leadership Forum
In observance of the 100th International Women’s Day and in recognition of the role still to be played by women in society and in our county; Unilever hosted the International Women’s Forum SA as they engaged with young and senior women leaders in KwaZulu Natal on leadership development.
This forum saw women leaders in KwaZulu Natal connecting in discussion about the future of women leadership in the country, and the role that both young and senior women leaders had to play in it.
“As we journeyed in our careers, we had women ahead of us who held our hands and showed us the way in business and in life in general,” said Dr. Namane Magau, President of the South African chapter of the International Women’s Forum.
“Unfortunately, between the senior women leaders of our country, and the young women leaders emerging now, there is a gap – one which we are determined to bridge.”
The event, which was hosted by Antoinette Irvine, Vice President HR of Unilever SA at the Unilever Headquarters in La Lucia Ridge, Durban, was characterised by lively discussion and insight on the Young Leaders Connect forum to be launched in June by the International Women’s Forum (IWF). Ms. Vuyo Mahlati, Chairperson of the Post Office and IWF member, shared plans that the IWF has to launch Young Leaders Connect with a Global conference in conjunction with IWF counterparts in The United States of America and Bahamas.
Said Mahlati, “The key objectives of Young Leaders Connect will be to mentor, guide and equip young women leaders, and to connect them with the counterparts in the rest of the world. As we celebrate International Women’s Day a century since its inception, we are grateful and proud of how much women have achieved, but so much still needs to be done - the struggle continues.”
The Young Leaders Connect KZN Chapter promises great vision, opportunity and accomplishments for young women leaders in the province. With the guidance of parental International Women’s Forum, it is envisaged to be a significant tool in ensuring the sustainability and growth of women leadership in the country.
