Unilever launches the Motions Academy

The Motions Academy which will teach salon-style hair care and backed by one of the leading African hair care brands in the United States was opened by Unilever South Africa in Johannesburg
Celebrity international hair stylist Ursula Stephen flew in to join the hair dressing fraternity, fashionistas, education leaders and the glamour media at the downtown VIP event.
Ursula who is in great demand in the hair game after reinventing the image of celebrities such as R&B superstar Rihanna, platinum recording artist Keyshia Cole and Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams, is the Motions global brand ambassador.
The Motions range of products was created from a passion for ensuring that African women had a way to express the true beauty of their hair and promises salon-inspired hair care especially for ethnic hair of all types and texture.
“African hair is beautiful and has unique requirements. The Motions line of hair care products brings the experience and prestige of the beauty salon to make ethnic hair look and feel fabulous,” said Seokhee Won, Marketing Vice President of Unilever SA.
“Now with the Motions Academy, a combination of technology, style expertise and education will set the South African hair care market alight.”
Won said Motions was conceived two decades ago when high-quality hair care was rare for African hair.
The training institution will provide education and training for local hair care stakeholders, including salon owners and stylists.
“The Motions Academy hopes to train around 5000 stylists each year. The courses will be duly accredited so that the academy’s certificates will be fully recognised,” said Won.
Motions Academy courses commence in January 2012 and will include wet hair design techniques; relaxing, cutting and styling; long hair styling; bonding, weaving and styling; and salon management skills.
